BIBLIO Celebrates 20th Birthday with International Expansion Plans

BIBLIO

It has been 20 years since BIBLIO was founded in Asheville, NC. Its mission was to give antiquarian and used bookstores the tools needed to survive and grow in a digital world. Since then, BIBLIO has grown to become a major independent marketplace, offering booksellers a global reach to market and sell their unique items.

BIBLIO now offers nearly 100 million used books and rare books for sale, partnering with more than 7,500 bookstores (it started with only 14 in 2003) that list their inventory on BIBLIO. Over the past two decades it has sponsored important fairs in the antiquarian and rare book market, and worked closely with reputed antiquarian booksellers associations, such as the ABAA, ABA (British and American), ILAB.

"BIBLIO has facilitated the sales of some of the most important books in the collecting world, which is a responsibility we take very seriously," said a spokesperson for the company. "We advocate for a healthy business environment and our commitment is to support independent booksellers. We value the uniqueness of their books and we are proud to give them the opportunity of reaching collectors and book lovers from all over the world. That’s why we are especially excited about our next business venture, the launch of BIBLIO.es - our first Spanish site.

"One of the most important lessons we have learned after all of these years is that printing has not lost its magic. Books have endured for centuries as a pivotal cultural asset, and physical books are still the preferred reading format for most dedicated readers. Buying used books is the perfect way to reduce your environmental footprint, save money, and support small local businesses. Antiquarian bookshops are an essential part of the book market as they preserve a piece of essential literary knowledge and expertise to pass over to future generations. We cannot wait to continue contributing to their success."
