Disney Classics and Van Gogh Autograph at Auction

RR Auctions

Vincent van Gogh Autograph Letter Signed: Handwritten letter from Paris by the young "V. W. van Gogh," addressing his love of literature

RR Auction's December Fine Autographs and Artifacts sale brings over 1,000 items to the auction block. A special animation section features production cels from a number of Disney classics, plus concept paintings by legendary artists Mary Blair and Eyvind Earle.

Highlights include; a Mary Blair concept painting of Alice and Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. The original artwork shows the surprised Alice climbing the Cheshire Cat's tree on a moonlit night in the Tulgey Wood; the purple cat grins menacingly while holding his head above his body. Stunningly rendered in shades of purple, blue, and black, the scene is a superb example of Blair's artistic style—the dark composition aptly captures the Cheshire Cat's mischievous nature and Alice's astonishment at seeing him. A stunning, well-composed panoramic painting featuring Blair's stylish interpretation of two of Disney's most desirable characters. (Estimate: $15,000+).
