Three Stooges Scripts and Trading Cards Memorabilia to Auction

Heritage Auction

Swingin' the Alphabet original handwritten score

One of the finest collections of rare The Three Stooges memorabilia will go under the hammer in Heritage Auctions' Entertainment sale running July 27-29.

Leading the auction is a high-end complete master set of the original 1959 Fleer Three Stooges trading cards that includes 96 cards and three checklist variations. The cards feature colorized images from the Columbia shorts starring Moe, Larry and Curly. The first three are mini-bios of the Stooges, the rest feature joke captions on the front, with expanded text and jokes on the back related to the images on the front.

Other highlights include:

  • a set of five photos inscribed and signed by Larry, Curly, Moe, Ted Healy and Shemp
  • several signed contracts, including one with Columbia Pictures dated October 21, 1946, that amends the group's contract, stating in part, "It is understood that Moe Howard, Larry Fine, Jerry Howard and Shemp Howard are employed as one (1) unit …"
  • the Swingin The Alphabet original handwritten score from the Three Stooges short Violent is the World for Curly (Columbia, 1939) which includes lyrics and the complete score for Piano, "3 Girls", including three violin parts, as well as viola, cello, bass, three flutes, two trumpets, a trombone, drums and xylophone, as well as what appears to be a conductor's score
  • Moe Howard's United States passport (1939), issued to Moses Hurovitz (Moe Howard) for his trip to London and stamped for a 5-week stay in the United Kingdom
  • a Curly Howard endorsed check, a vintage original Bank of America check to Jerome Howard (Curly) from Gertrude Howard (Shemp's wife) in the amount of $500, dated August 24, 1945
