Writers Can Now Apply to Work in Jane Austen's Bedroom

Jane Austen's House is trialling a new project offering limited opportunities for visitors to sit and write in Jane Austen's bedroom.

Successful applicants for this brief 'Writer in Residence' scheme at the writer's house museum in Chawton, England, this autumn will be able to sit at a small table in a corner of the room overlooking the courtyard and garden while visitors wander through the house, although at times the room will be empty.

There will be one slot available on selected Thursday and Friday afternoons in November from 1pm until 4pm. The table will be big enough for a lamp and a notebook or laptop though no power leads can be used as there is no power source nearby. Ink pens are not allowed to be brought in, though water bottles are permitted.

Tickets are £45 and also include access to the rest of the house and grounds for the day.

The trial is a new event that is in a testing phase and may be extended for additional dates.
