Bibliography Week 2024 Celebrates Study of Material Texts and Bibliographical Community

Bibliophiles, literary enthusiasts, and scholars are gearing up for the much-anticipated Bibliography Week 2024, a week-long celebration of literary heritage, scheduled to take place this year January 22 - 27. 

"This event promises to be a captivating exploration of the history of books, featuring a diverse range of activities and discussions," said Erin McGuirl, Executive Director of the Bibliographical Society of America. "Bibliography Week 2024 aims to foster a deeper appreciation for the significance of bibliographical knowledge and the role it plays in preserving and sharing cultural knowledge. The week's lineup includes a variety of engaging events."

Highlights include:

  • Booksellers Showcase: 35 exhibitors will present curated displays of rare and antiquarian books, maps, and ephemera for sale at FIAF on January 22
  • Panel discussions: Thought-provoking panel discussions will delve into topics such as the relationship between creative practice and pedagogy, an art historical approach to Chinese book history
  • Lectures: Daniela Bleichmar will speak on the Codex Mendoza at the BSA Annual Meeting, and Kadin Henningson will speak on his work at the APHA Annual Meeting.
  • Exhibition tours: The Grolier Club will offer tours of their ongoing exhibitions throughout the week
  • Opportunities to gather and network: The chance to meet other bibliophiles and bibliographers at events throughout the week, including at the BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, Disabled, and Spanish-speaking Bibliographers: Bibliography Week Meet-Up online and in-person at the NY Society Library for the BSA & NYSL Members and Friends Mixer on January 25

Bibliography Week 2024 is a collaborative effort between The Bibliographical Society of America (BSA), The Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America (ABAA), The Grolier Club, The American Printing History Association, and others, reflecting the commitment to celebrating the written word and the people who study it. 

The event is open to the public, welcoming individuals of all ages who share a passion for the history of books and other material texts.
