The rare 1493 first edition of the Nuremberg Chronicle

A rare 1493 first edition of the Nuremberg Chronicle has been sold for $65,885 at Nate D. Sanders Auctions. It received six bids.

The Nuremberg Chronicle, authored by Hartmann Schedel, stands as the unparalleled 15th century illustrated history of the world, published by Anton Koberger on July 12, 1493.

This copy, in its original Latin as Liber Chronicarum, boasts all 1,809 woodcut illustrations, providing unique insights into cities, historical events, and the daily life of the 15th century.

It is further enriched by the private library bookplates of William Roy Smith on the front pastedown and an inlaid woodcut title. Despite minor repairs to margins and slight discoloration on some preliminary leaves, this well-preserved first edition is in very good plus condition.
