A selection of Nora Roberts romances included in Rebecca Romney’s catalogue, The Romance Novel in English: A Rare Book Survey, 1769-1999, and now in the collection of Indiana University’s Lilly Library.

Rare books specialist Rebecca Romney is to hold an online introduction to rare book collecting with an emphasis on romance novels.

The virtual class on October 15 is aimed at those who are new to book collecting as well as those who are aiming to grow their collection. It will feature plenty of advice on the ins and outs of the rare book world by Romney who is a rare book dealer, appraiser and author. She is also the co-founder of Type Punch Matrix, a rare book firm in the Washington DC area. She published The Romance Novel in English: A Survey in Rare Books, 1769-1999 in 2021, tracing the history of the genre through book collecting in 100 lots.

She will also be conducting a collection review and is encouraging people to email a description and photos of their collection to hello@oldtownbooks.com so that she can select a few to discuss and provide feedback.

The subject was covered in our summer issue and our short guide to resources for romance collectors is also useful.

A Romance Reader's Guide to Book Collecting will run on October 15, from 12pm - 1.30pm EDT.
