Sotheby’s is delighted to present Books and Manuscripts: A Summer Miscellany. As the title suggests the sale includes a unique presentation of a range of material including literature, cartography, travel and more.
A highlight of the sale is a comprehensive collection of first editions, proofs and typescripts by and about T.E. Lawrence (‘Lawrence of Arabia’) carefully assembled in the UK over a considerable period, highlights including the US copyright edition of Seven Pillars of Wisdom of 1926 (of which only 22 copies were printed), the printer’s set of the Proofs before Letters of the illustrations for the 1926 Subscribers’ edition, a typescript of the edition of The Mint limited to 50 copies to secure American copyright in 1936, and much else besides.
