Nearly 400 lots including original photographs, photobooks, fine art, art books, and collectible posters. Featured in the photography section are signed photographs by Ansel Adams and his f/64 colleagues (Imogen Cunningham, Edward & Brett Weston), works by members of the New York Photo League and the Historical Section of the Farm Security Administration, Pictorialist works from Alfred Stieglitz and members of the Photo-Secession (highlighted by Stieglitz photogravures from Camera Work and an original platinum print by Clarence H. White), works by the later generation of California photographers (Richard Garrod, Wynn Bullock, John Sexton, Ruth Bernhard et al.), as well as classic works from some of the greatest photographers of the 20th century including André Kertész, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Berenice Abbott, Elliott Erwitt, and more. In Section II we enter hyper-space and travel from still photography to the moving picture, notably to the Michael Gleason collection of one sheet posters from his time as Visual Effects Editor at Lucas Film and Industrial Light and Magic. Featured are original one sheet movie posters from blockbuster series such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, Jurassic Park and Harry Potter, as well as individual mega-hits such as E.T., The Goonies, Poltergeist, and more. Highlights from the later sections include a drawing of Mickey Mouse signed by Walt Disney, a lovely Meiji-era printing of Hokusai’s Thirty-Six Views of Mt. Fuji, and the extraordinary mid-century artists’ book Abstract Expressionism by Joan Mitchell and various members of the New York School.
