Delaware Art Museum: This exhibition highlights 47 works on paper—from etchings to screen prints—depicting city life across more than a century, showcasing 45 artists from the Delaware Art Museum’s collection.
Home to art schools, galleries, museums, and makers, the city is a vibrant space for artistic creation and exchange. This exhibition showcases 47 drawings and prints inspired by cities including New York, Paris, and Wilmington, Delaware. Dating from 1875 through 2007, these works of art capture grand boulevards, side alleys, skyscrapers, and tenements, as well as the people that shape city life. Printmaking is at the heart of this exhibition, which features etchings, woodcuts, monotypes, lithographs, and screen prints. The City on Paper is drawn entirely from the collection of the Delaware Art Museum and presents new acquisitions and rarely exhibited works. The show encompasses 45 artists including Peggy Bacon, Gertrude Howland Balch, Stuart Davis, Martin Lewis, John Marin, Mavis Pusey, John Sloan, Wayne Thiebaud, and J. A. M. Whistler.
