PBA Auction Galleries Sale #854: Nearly 460 lots including a nearly complete collection of the first series of posters for Bill Graham shows at the Fillmore, Winterland, and Fillmore West. Legendary bands from the 1960’s San Francisco scene found their counterparts in the visual arts with show posters featuring the psychedelic artistry of Wes Wilson, Bonnie MacLean, Lee Conklin, Rick Griffin, Victor Moscoso, Mouse & Kelley, Randy Tuten, and others. A bit further down the road of high weirdness—in San Mateo—we find the disinherited children of the rock n’ roll rebellion, The Residents. Inspired by Captain Beefheart who had played the Fillmore, the group sounded a big Dada “No”, and experimented like Dr. Frankenstein on the bloated corpse of rock ’n roll.
