Chateau de Chantilly: Through some twenty prestigious volumes, the book collection highlights the various ways in which Greek and Roman Antiquity has been transmitted, revisited, and interpreted from the Middle Ages to the end of the 19th century.
The Duke of Aumale received the five volumes of Ennio Quirino Visconti's Greek Iconography and Roman Iconography as a prize at the Concours général in 1839. He continued to enrich his collection with first editions of the great classical texts and splendid art books on Antiquity.
His erudition, combined with a passion for archaeology and collections of antiquities, led him to document all periods and techniques of Antiquity, perceived as a subject of study, but also as a model and an invitation to travel.
