Fans of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings may be excited to note the posting, over this past weekend, of previously unpublished images of J.R.R. Tolkien's manuscripts and paintings.

As part of a website update and relaunch, the Tolkien Estate offered its many fans twelve new morsels, including an image of the draft manuscript of “The Homecoming of Beorhtnoth, Beorhthelm's Son” ca. 1953 and several beautiful paintings, such as an untitled woodland scene ca. 1913, evocative of his later illustrations.

The new upload also includes a handful of personal photographs of the author and his family, added to an already comprehensive selection of letters, artwork, scholarship, and audio/visual resources available on the site.
