The Stuttgart Rare Book Fair, Germany's international fair for valuable books, autographs, illustrated works and graphic art, will be held at the Württembergischer Kunstverein January 24 - 26, organised by the German Association of Antiquarian Booksellers.

Held in Stuttgart for more than 60 years, this year the fair has seen a noticeable increase in the number of international exhibitors with over 60 antiquarian bookshops and galleries from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, as well as from Belgium, Hungary, France, Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, Great Britain and the USA presenting books, manuscripts, prints, autographs and illustrated works.

The 62nd fair, the first in the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB) international fair calendar, will be held at the Württembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart, Schloßplatz 2, 70173 Stuttgart, and includes a series of events held in German.

"After months of planning, the German Antiquarian Booksellers' Association presents its fair with a modern and fresh appearance at its traditional location in Stuttgart," said writes Markus Brandis, President of the association. "Nearly 70 exhibitors invite you to view and buy the treasures of our trade and to enjoy stimulating conversations."

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Franz Kafka's death in 2024, the Stuttgart Rare Book Fair is presenting an exhibition of documents relating to his writings including work by the illustrator Robert Crumb. Excerpts from the comic Kafka by Crumb and David Zane Mairowitz will be presented,  as well as works by Kafka himself including the first edition of The Metamorphosis.

The Verband Deutscher Antiquare (VDA) - German Antiquarian Booksellers' Association -  has been an important network for the German antiquarian book trade since 1949.
