Inaugural Porto Antiquarian Book Fair Opens Tomorrow
Porto's first Antiquarian Book Fair (1º Salão do Livro Antigo no Porto) will take place May 1-3 in the city's Fundação Manuel António da Mota.
The event is sponsored and organized by the Fundação Miranda de Andrade and the antiquarian bookseller Paulo Gaspar Ferreira from the In-Libris bookshop.
Bookshops participating in the fair include Berardo Trindade Art & Rare Books (Lisbon), In-Libris (Porto), Livraria Académica (Porto), Livraria Liliana Queiroz (Caldas da Rainha), Livraria Cólofon (Guimarães), Livraria Esquina (Porto), Livraria Manuel Ferreira (Porto), Livraria Miguel de Carvalho (Figueira da Foz), Livraria Nova Eclética (Lisbon), and Livraria Olisipo (Lisbon),
The fair will also feature a cultural program with talks and appearances from leading antiquarian booksellers including Nuno Canavez, and internationally renowned physician and pathologist Manuel Sobrinho Simões. There will also be an exhibition of antique printing machinery at the fair and a book auction organized by ANNO Leilões.
"The emergence of this new event in Porto, along with the already confirmed 3rd Antiquarian Book Fair of Coimbra later this year, shows that this type of event is resurging and gaining momentum in Portugal, attesting to the vitality of the sector," said Francisco Brito from Livraria Cólofon, based in Guimarães.
