Livres rares et Manuscrits
Sale #22529

This summer, Christie’s Paris online-only Livres rares et Manuscrits auction will invite international collectors and booklovers to an exploration of seven centuries of writing and printing. From 16th century printed books to the most daring livres d’artistes, from Diderot, Callot and Napoleon, to Braque, Duchamp and Éluard, the sale is an invitation to discover the shapes and visions of the book through the years. Among the remarkable copies and documents, one can mention a large set of arcimboldesque etchings from the Métiers et Costumes grotesques series, a complete copy of the Encyclopédie bound for Empress Maria Feodorovna, a fascinating archive and set of original drawings for a Surrealist card game, an illuminated missal for the use of Notre-Dame de Paris, as well as important autograph manuscripts and letters by Gustave Flaubert, Germaine de Staël or Pierre Soulages.
