Pulp Paperback Covers: Five Rare Books for Collectors

Highlights of Heritage Auctions' August 11 Pulp, Paperback, Sci-Fi and Fantasy Illustration Art auction include:

* The Eternal Enemy book cover study, acrylic on board, 1990

Vincent Di Fate created the study as a near final preliminary step for the cover of The Eternal Enemy by Michael Berlyn (Morrow, 1990). Slight differences can be seen in the details of the large space ship as well as the positioning of the smaller craft below and the planets in the background.

* Hospital Station paperback cover, acrylic on board, 1985

Attributed and titled on the reverse "Hospital Station / By James White / Rick Sternbach / Please Return". Rick Sternbach created the work for the 1985 reissue of Hospital Station book one in the Sector General series by James White (Del Rey) and is accompanied by a print out of the cover.

* Timemaster book cover, Vincent Di Fate, acrylic on board, 1992

Signed and dated lower right "© V. Di Fate '91". Previously from the Estate of Charles Martignette. The work is published as the dust jacket art for the 1992 hardcover edition of Tor books Timemaster by Robert L. Forward and also appears as the paperback cover in 1993. The work is accompanied by a print out of the cover.

* Windward Passage paperback cover, Rudy Nappi, oil on board, 1942

Signed lower left: Rudy Nappi. The work is published as the cover of Windward Passage by Hamilton Cochran (Hamilton Books, 1942) and is accompanied by a copy of the book.

* Nursery Tale paperback cover, Hector Garrido, acrylic on board laid on board, 1982

The work is published as the cover of Nursery Tale the second book in the Strange Seeds series by T. M. Wright (Playboy Paperbacks, 1982) and is accompanied by a print out of the cover.
