James Bond First Editions to Auction
The James Bond first editions coming to auction
A collection of James Bond first editions spanning the spy's career from Casino Royale through to the posthumously published Octopussy and The Living Daylights comes up for sale at Gorringe's' Books and Manuscripts sale on September 21.
All 14 volumes going under the hammer, owned by collector Barry Frederick Davis who died last year, are first editions and include a number of notable early states and jackets. Highlights include the scarce first state dust jacket of Live and Let Die (1954, estimate: £4,000–£6,000), a third impression of Casino Royale which was one of only 986 copies printed (1954, estimate: £2,000–£3,000), and a signed copy of Octopussy and The Living Daylights (£400–£600).

- Goldfinger, 1959, first edition, first impression, first-state binding, in the original dust jacket (estimate: £800–£1,200)
- For Your Eyes Only, 1960, first edition, first impression, in the original dust jacket (estimate: £300–£500)
- Thunderball, 1961, first edition, first impression, first issue, in the original dust jacket (estimate: £300–£500)
- The Spy Who Loved Me, 1962, first edition, first impression, in the original dust jacket (estimate: £300–£500)
- On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, 1963, first edition, first impression, in the original dust jacket (estimate: £200–£400)
- You Only Live Twice, 1964, first edition, first impression, first state, in the original dust jacket (estimate: £100–£200)
- The Man with the Golden Gun, 1965, first edition, first impression, in the original dust jacket (estimate: £300–£500)
