Join the Book Owners Online team for a collaborative online research day about bookplates and the historical book owners who used them.

Open to everyone interested in provenance and book history, come along to learn about bookplates and Book Owners Online from David Pearson and his team, then put your skills into practice by composing a BOO entry or two.

Preliminary Schedule:

  • 10am - Zoom room opens. Presentations from David Pearson and the BOO RAs Mhairi Rutherford and Samantha Brown, followed by discussion.
  • 11am - Research begins! The Zoom stays open for questions and troubleshooting.
  • 1pm - Lunchtime talk by David Pearson on bookplates and their identification, followed by discussion.
  • 2pm - The Zoom room will stay open for drop-in discussion and questions.
  • 4pm - Return to the Zoom for final discussion and heartfelt thanks from the BOO team.

We will provide a selection of bookplates and book owners who require investigation, and a variety of resources to help as you research and compose your entry (links will be provided via email before the event).

By attending and submitting an entry for a new owner based on your research, you will be contributing to BOO's ever-expanding directory of historical book owners. You'll also be facilitating open online access to the Franks collection of bookplates in the British Museum, which is not currently digitised.

Whether you can attend the whole day or just drop in for a short time, we hope to see you there!
