Announcing the Southern New England Antiquarian Booksellers

We are delighted to announce the roll-out of Southern New England Antiquarian Booksellers (SNEAB), with 146 members from Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. We have organized to promote our mutual interest in selling antiquarian books, issuing an annual directory, now available, maintaining a website, www.sneab.com, sponsoring book and ephemera fairs, and gathering for quarterly meetings at member shops, libraries, or museums, to conduct business and socialize.

SNEAB is an outgrowth of Massachusetts and Rhode Island Antiquarian Booksellers (MARIAB), which was organized in 1976. We discussed the possibility of including Connecticut with Bill and Debby Goring of Nutmeg Books in Torrington, who published an annual directory, and with other sellers from Connecticut, and got a nod of approval. We then moved to adopt new by-laws, which expanded membership and revised our name; we gathered and approved applications from Connecticut; we have now produced our first directory as Southern New England Antiquarian Booksellers, and updated our website.

We include generalists and specialists, those with open shops, those who sell by appointment, mail, catalog, online, or at fairs. Members offer early, modern, collectible, rare, scholarly, fine, and used books, manuscripts, ephemera, prints, maps, autographs, postcards, and photographs in a great range of subjects.

Rick Pinchera Illustration & Design, www.rickpinchera.com produced our new logo and map; Michael Russem from Kat Ran Press, www.katranpress.com designed the directory; Ken Haverly of Meetinghouse Books in South Deerfield is our webmaster, and maintains our data files. Copies of the directory are available at most member stores, or through our website.

We sponsor two annual fairs: the Boston Book, Paper & Photo Exposition & Sale, at the Shriner’s Auditorium in Wilmington, Massachusetts, in early May, www.bostonbookshows.com , managed by Marvin Getman, Impact Events Group, and the Pioneer Valley Book & Ephemera Fair, Sunday, October 12, 2014, Smith Vocational School, Northampton, Massachusetts, www.pioneervalleybookfair.com , managed by Flamingo Eventz, www.flamingoeventz.com

We invite you to visit www.sneab.com for member contact information, store hours, locations, and a form to request a printed directory.
