January 19, 2023 Making the Modern Book: The Aramont Library: A Library of Congress Symposium and Open House

This in-person symposium, celebrating the donation of the Aramont Library to the Rare Book and Special Collections Division (RBSCD), will bring together artists, printers, scholars and publishers to discuss and examine modernism and the book.

Donated privately to the Library of Congress in 2019, the Aramont Library is a stunning collection of modern first editions, exhibition bindings, sets and livres d’artistes, luxury publications featuring work by twentieth-century art world giants including Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro and Henri Matisse. A dynamic and varied collection, the Aramont offers scholars and visitors the opportunity to examine modernism in poetry, literature, philosophy and visual art.

In honor of this event, RBSCD will provide an evening public viewing of selections from the Aramont Library in the Jefferson Building at the Library of Congress. This viewing will take place on Jan 19th from 5:00pm-7:00pm. This in-person viewing is free, but tickets will be required.
