Postcard from the Boston Antiquarian Book Fairs, 2018 fbcadmin Tue, 11/20/2018 - 09:11

Waylaid by the weather, I had only one day to browse both Boston fairs this year. It's an impossible task, but still, I saw many amazing books, manuscripts, and objects.

Five auctions to watch this week, leading off with a Wednesday, March 21 sale of Fine Books and Manuscripts at Bonhams London. The 408 lots include items from the collections of Charles Benson, Esq. (lots 45-65), Capt. J.D.G. Fortescue (lots 110-154), art dealer Kenneth John Hewett (lots 155-202), and Frieda Hughes (lots 301-408), as well as a private collection of ferns, seaweeds, and mosses (lots 218-249).

While many of us are not quite ready for summer to end, here's the good news: the autumn issue of Fine Books & Collections mails this week. In it you will find a feature on photobook collecting (hence Richard Avedon on the cover, pictured below), as well as articles about Sylvia Plath, Henry D. Thoreau, Chawton House Library, and Harry Potter's 20th anniversary. Plus our usual columns, auction reports, and our (free) fall auction guide.
