Angela Tate

Angela Tate is curator of women’s history at the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) in Washington, DC. Her work at NMAAHC focuses on highlighting the stories and concerns of Black women through the lens of US and African American history. She also supports the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum, which expands the story of America through the often-untold accounts and accomplishments of women—individually and collectively—to better understand our past and inspire our future.

Much of what we know about Phillis Wheatley Peters (1753–1784) is a brief biographical sketch. She was enslaved as a young girl.
