The National Collegiate Book Collecting Contest invites all those who have won book collecting contests at American colleges and universities to enter. The closing date for entries will be June 4, 2010. Contest rules will beavailable at abaa.org. The first prize winner will receive $2,500; the second, $1,000; and, the third, $500. Their sponsoring libraries also will
be accorded prize monies.
The award ceremony, with a lecture related to book collecting, will be held at the Library of Congress in the fall of 2010.
The sponsors wish to educate and encourage book collecting in new generations. Collectors have been and continue to be vital to American
cultural life and institutions. Collectors such as Thomas Jefferson, J. Pierpont Morgan and Henry Huntington created personal libraries, which
formed the foundation of the Library of Congress, the Morgan Library and Museum and the Huntington Library. The private visions of book collectors
challenge and broaden American cultural horizons. The ABAA, FABS and the Library of Congress hope the National Book Collecting Contest will
contribute to this important process.
