The American Art Fair
2009-10-19 NEW YORK, October 7, 2009—The American Art Fair, benefiting the National Academy Museum & School of Fine Arts, will be held November 30-December 3, 2009 at the Museum, 1083 Fifth Avenue at 89th Street, New York City. The gala preview on Sunday, November 29, celebrates the beginning of American Paintings week in New York. The Fair, introduced in 2008, focuses on the grand tradition of American art established early in the 19th century and gathers more than 200 works by founding National Academy members and their circle. Landscapes, portraits, still lifes, studies, and sculpture by the artists who defined American art in the 19th and early 20th century include many works that have not been on the market for generations.

The Fair assembles the premier specialists in 19th and early 20th century American art in this historic setting. Exhibitors include Alexander Gallery, Avery Galleries, Bernard Goldberg Fine Arts, Debra Force Fine Art, Gerald Peters Gallery, Godel & Co. Fine Art, Hammer Galleries, Hirschl & Adler Galleries, Menconi & Schoelkopf, Questroyal Fine Art, and Thomas Colville Fine Art.

The American Art Fair immerses current and potential collectors and patrons in the legacy and importance of the Academy’s role in America and American art. The institution established over 180 years ago as the National Academy of Design was the center and primary catalyst for emerging artists to distinguish themselves, influence each other, and to define the young nation’s cultural identity.

This year the American Art Fair offers both collectors and exhibitors the opportunity to support the National Academy of Design. Each dealer will voluntarily designate certain works from which 5-10% of the sale price will be donated to the Museum.

Fair hours are 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily, and to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2. A special seminar on collecting will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2. Admission to the preview is by invitation, and from November 30-December 3, complimentary. For details, please call 212.472.1636 or visit www.TheAmericanArtfFair.com.
