ITHACA, NY—National Book Auctions, located in Ithaca, NY, announces the launch of their next auction catalog.
This catalog features rare, antique and decorative books as well as select additions of ephemera, artwork and collectibles. Of particular interest is an impressive collection of early titles from the field of Chemistry, along with fine bindings housing Civil War histories. This catalog also includes our next session from a large and impressive private collection of early engravings. Dispersed among the many book lots is a personal inventory of desirable antique titles relating to travel and exploration.
Antique and rare books in this catalog feature numerous titles. Among the earliest examples are the 1563 printing of "Iudoci Clichthovei Theologi Parisiensis de Vita and Moribus Sacerdotum," bound in vellum, Boccaccio's "L'Amorosa Fiammetta," produced in 1584 and also housed in vellum, and the 1640 printing of "Justini Historiarum ex Trogo Pompeoio." Other scarce titles include the 1809 first English edition of "The Travels of Captains Lewis and Clarke," with the fold-out map present, the 1793 first edition of Dalton's "Meteorological Observations and Essays," and a 1974 first state of Molly Katzen's landmark "Moosewood Cookbook."
Several pleasing collections will also be featured. Included is our first session from a substantial private library concentrated in the field of Chemistry, including examples such as the 1789 printing of Lavoisier's "Traite Elementaire de Chimie," produced in three volumes with tables and fold-out plates, and the 1778 first edition of "Methode de Nomenclature Chimique." Additional fine collections center on the American Civil War, travel & exploration, antique textile & dyeing reference, and horticulture, botany & gardening. Throughout the catalog are desirable titles from categories such as decorative antique bindings, modern first edition fiction, military history, New York, early Americana, cartography, the American West, natural history, technology & engineering, and much more.
Found throughout this catalog are interesting offerings of ephemera, artwork and collectibles. We're pleased to conduct another session of items from a very large private collection of early engravings, many of which are hand-colored. Engravings in the collection date back to the 16th century and categories include cartography, ornithology, natural history, architecture, botanical, and more. Other ephemera lots showcase Hollywood memorabilia, early maps, postcards, railroad-related, antique magazines, travel-related, original antique correspondence, antique photographs, billheads, stamps, and other genres. The collectibles are led by a fine assortment of ceramics and an estate collection of primitive carved items and Native American Indian carvings. The ceramics include late 18th and early 19th century Staffordshire examples and several different styles including flow blue transferware and majolica. This auction also features numerous lots of handsome antique carved wooden duck decoys.
