Genealogy, Ephemera, Modern First Editions at National Book Auctions

ITHACA, NY—National Book Auctions, located in Ithaca, NY, announces the launch of their next auction catalog.

This catalog features rare, antique and decorative books as well as select additions of ephemera and artwork.  Interesting collections include a broad selection of early American exploration histories and a private collection of modern first editions with many important author signatures.  Among the artwork are two original mixed media works by Meinrad Craighead and a geo-kinetic sculpture by Larry Lipsky.

Antique and rare books in this catalog feature numerous titles.  Among the earliest examples are 1720 first edition of Neal's "The History of New England," produced in two volumes with a fold-out map, the 1814 first edition of "The Infernal War against the Seven Churches of Asia," and the 1811 two-volume Hartford imprint of Adam Smith's landmark economics treatise, "An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations."  Other scarce titles include the 1817 printing of Lewis & Clark's "Travels to the Source of the Missouri River," produced in three volumes, the 1874 first edition of Kitchen's "Record of the Wyoming Artillerists," and the 1831 first edition of Stark & Rogers' "Reminiscences of the French War - Containing Rogers Expeditions."

Several pleasing collections will also be featured.  Included is a fine private library of modern first editions, many featuring important author signatures, from the estate of Leroy Truman Goble, a figure in the Chicago literary renaissance of the 1920's.  Desirable signed examples from this group feature names such as Robert W. Chambers, Carl Sandburg, Sherwood Anderson, Ben Hecht and others.  Additional collections feature decorative antique bindings, military history, travel & exploration, Civil War, New York, Mississippi, early Americana, cartography, the American West, natural history, technology & engineering, and much more.

Found throughout this catalog are interesting offerings of collectibles, artwork and ephemera.  Alongside original modern works by Meinrad Craighead and Larry Lipsky are select prints and paintings.  The ephemera lots showcase early maps, postcards, railroad-related, antique magazines, travel-related, original antique correspondence, antique photographs, Hollywood memorabilia, and other genres.   Interesting collectibles include antique wind instruments such as a Buffet clarinet, an intriguing belt buckle collection and other items.
