James Gannon To Potter & Potter as Senior Fine Books & Manuscripts Consultant

Potter & Potter

Chicago - Potter & Potter Auctions is excited to announce that James Gannon has joined the company as Senior Consultant to its Fine Books & Manuscripts Department. This department has experienced unprecedented growth over the past two years, regularly delivers seven figure results, and has established many new global sales records. With Gannon's appointment, the company intends to leverage that energy, further expand its offerings and expertise, and become the first choice for enthusiasts and consignors looking to buy and sell world-class books, manuscripts, ephemera, and related materials.

Gannon began his association with books in 1990 as a specialist at the Heritage Book Shop in Los Angeles. He was named Director of Rare Books for Dallas based Heritage Auction Galleries in 2007. There, over the course of 15 years, he oversaw the sales of many extraordinary literature and fine book rarities, including J.R.R. Tolkien's handwritten letter regarding the origins of the Lord of the Rings, a first edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and Roger Alden's copy of The Federalist, 1788 - a spectacular two-volume set uncut in the publisher’s original boards and with the ownership signature of Revolutionary War soldier and Assistant Secretary of the Continental Congress, Roger Alden.

Gannon enjoys a global reputation for his encyclopedic knowledge, industry insights, and collector relationships. In his new role, he will be responsible for attending events on behalf of the company, consignment generation, and deepening industry networks.

According to Gabe Fajuri, President at Potter & Potter Auctions, "There is no one better qualified to help us super-charge the growth of our Fine Books & Manuscripts department. James’s sterling reputation and considerable experience speak for themselves. Everyone at Potter & Potter is pleased he is part of the team.”

Chris Brink, Potter & Potter Auctions' Head of Department, Fine Books & Manuscripts adds, "Our team is incredibly thrilled to have James on board as a senior consultant for the Book Department. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in the field of rare books and will be a great asset to us as we rapidly continue to expand this category in the marketplace and take the department to new heights."

And Gannon shares, "I consider myself very fortunate to get the chance to join a firm combining such personalized service and professional auction offerings as Potter & Potter. Recent rare book and manuscript auctions at Potter are a needed and refreshing improvement in breadth and quality to a landscape that is expanding rapidly, though not always to the benefit of consignors or bidders. We intend to offer a high level of customer service and advice for consignors in terms of collection dispersal; or for bidders/buyers in making wise choices for building their collections. I am excited to be working with the excellent management and team at Potter to provide our clients with the best consignor experience and results.“
