NYC Rare Book Week

Join us for Rare Book Week in New York City. From April 4 to April 13, dozens of antiquarian book fairs, auctions, and exhibitions are open and available to collectors and bibliophiles. New York Antiquarian Book Fair

Sponsored by the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Assocation of America and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers, the NYABF opens with a preview Thursday evening, March 9, and runs through Sunday, March 12, at the Park Avenue Armory at 643 Park Ave. Over 200 American and international dealers will display an astonishing array of rare books, fine art, maps, manuscripts, and ephemera. Admission: $50 for preview pass, $40 run of show, $25 daily, $10 for students carrying a valid school ID. For more information, visit nyantiquarianbookfair.com.

Highlights

Dutch bookseller Antiquaariat De Roo will beckon collectors with this beautiful eighteenth-century Bible, rebound with decorative sil ver clasps, corner-pieces, and one meter-long chain. Price: $2,250.

Brooklyn bookseller Enchanted Books specializes in children’s and illustrated books. Their fair highlight: a rare first edition of Little Toot by Hardie Gramatky, accompanied by Gramatky’s original printed autograph on mat board. Price: $3,500.

Brooklyn’s Honey & Wax Booksellers will bring this spectacular 1796 first edition of Grasset de Saint-Sauveur’s Encyclopédie, featuring 438 hand-colored portraits of the peoples of the world. Price: $24,000.

Manhattan’s own Imperial Fine Books will presents this 40-volume, leather-bound Centennial Holland Paper Edition of The Writings of Honorè De Balzac. Price: $15,000.

Priscilla Juvelis of Kennebunkport, Maine, will offer Cig Harvey’s Running Towards Us, one of fourteen copies with sixteen original 10" x 10" C-prints on Kodak Endura luster paper to archival standards and bound by the artist accordion-style. Price: $6,000.

Brussels-based book dealer Pierre Coumans will showcase this rare first German edition (1929) of Die Wunderfahrt, a children’s book illustrated by famed Hungarian graphic designer, Sándor Bortnyik. It is, Coumans said, “among the most desirable twentieth-century children’s books.” Price: $3,000.

Take note of the original autograph musical manuscript of Duke Ellington’s unpublished song, “I’m Brown But I’m Red White & Blue,” presented by Schubertiade Music & Arts of Newton, Massachusetts. Price: $6,500.
