It's a look inside O'Brien's archive, now at the Ransom Center in Texas, that pulls at the strands of his beginnings as a writer, from a stint at an Army newsletter to his stunning novels Going After Cacciato (which won the National Book Award) and The Things They Carried, which was a World Book Night pick last year.
