EC, Mad, Pre-Code Horror & R. Crumb The auction features over 400 lots of comic books, original art, signed books and limited edition prints. Our focus is on the scandalous horror comics of the 1950s; the early MAD comics of Harvey Kurtzman; and R. Crumb and the Underground comix revolution. A handful of treasures from other categories rounds out the sale. Comics sold referencing a third-party grading service are sold "as is" without PBA's grading opinion and without any express or implied warranty. No returns of CGC-certified material will be accepted for any reason. Even with careful shipping, CGC holders occasionally incur minor chipping and cracking during shipment; therefore, PBA cannot guarantee the condition of these holders. Rare Books, Autographs & Maps The selection of Americana features important autograph letter from Thomas Jefferson on the arrest of Toussant Louverture and a prisoner discharge signed by Abraham Lincoln. Among the maps are a rare example of Matthew Dripps’ Map of the City of New-York, Moses Greenleaf’s Map of the State of Maine, and Joseph Bouchette’s monumental ten sheet Topographical map of the Province of Lower Canada. Literature includes a fine collection of books by F. Scott Fitzgerald, including a rare signed copy of his novel of the French Riviera, Tender is the Night. William Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury and Mosquitoes are offered in dust jacket and a great rarity is Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray, one of 250 signed deluxe copies. In children’s literature, signed first limited editions in dust jacket of A.A. Milne and E.H. Shepard’s Winnie-the-Pooh and House at Pooh Corner are included as is an inscribed 1869 edition of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
