Rare Books &c. at Auction This Week

A comparatively low-key week coming up, but here are the sales I'll be watching:

Early Printing, Americana, Science, Prints & Ephemera at New England Book Auctions on Tuesday, July 27, in 175 lots. Quite a range of material here, most with fairly low starting bids. 

Tennants Auctioneers sells 210 lots of Books, Maps & Manuscripts on Wednesday, July 28. There will be a great deal here for the collector (or want-to-be collector) of Gilbert White (see lots 74 through 88).

Forum Auctions holds a sale of Books and Works on Paper on Thursday, July 29. The 295 lots include a manuscript address to a meeting of French physicians co-written by Joseph-Ignace Gullotin and Philibert Borie about the care of newborn children (£1,000–1,500); a copy of Charles Dickens' first appearance in print in America, among some 103 issues of The Albion (also estimated at £1,000–1,500). A manuscript "town book" from Smallburgh in Norfolk, England covering the period 1777 to 1837 could sell for £800–1,200.

On Friday, July 30,  Disneyana and Pop Culture at Potter & Potter Auctions on 30 July. The 887 lots include an oil painting of a "stretched portrait" from the Haunted Mansion, estimated at $50,000–80,000. A partially-restored vehicle from the Mr. Toad's Wild Ride attraction could sell for $40,000–60,000. A original silkscreened "Haunted Mansion" poster signed by Imagineer Marc Davis is estimated at $10,000–15,000, while an original acrylic painting by Frank Sinatra could sell for $10,000–20,000.
