George-Warren's new biography, Janis: Her Life and Music, published this month, made the Carnegie list. A two-time Grammy nominee, George-Warren is the author of sixteen books. She wrote a story about an incredible Hunter S. Thompson collection for our summer 2019 issue and has a music-themed feature coming up in our winter 2020 issue.
On November 4, the ALA will winnow the list down to six finalists, and then the two winners will be announced at the Reference and User Services Association’s (RUSA) Book and Media Awards event at the ALA Midwinter Meeting & Exhibits in Philadelphia on January 26. Carnegie Medal winners receive $5,000 each.
Funded through a grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York and cosponsored by Booklist and RUSA, these awards “reflect the expert judgment and insight of library and book professionals who work closely with adult readers,” according to a press statement. “The Medals and the lists leading up to the selection of the winners serve as a guide to selecting quality reading material.”
