ITHACA, NY—National Book Auctions, located in Ithaca, NY, announces the launch of their next auction catalog.

This catalog features rare, antique and decorative books as well as select additions of ephemera, artwork and collectibles.  Of particular interest is a fine collection of antique ceramics.  This catalog also includes our second session from a large and impressive private collection of early engravings.  Dispersed among the many book lots is a large personal inventory of desirable antique titles dating back to the sixteenth century.

Antique and rare books in this catalog feature numerous titles.  Among the earliest examples are the 1593 Estienne imprint of "Digenous Laertiou Peribion," in a vellum binding, the 1656 first edition of Dugdale's "Antiquities of Warwickshire," and a vellum-bound 1651 printing of Raffaele de Turri's "Dissidentis Desciscentis Receptæque Neapolis Libri VI."  Other scarce titles include the 1814 first edition of the "History of the Expedition under the Command of Captains Lewis and Clark to the Sources of the Missouri," produced in two volumes, an 1883 first state of Mark Twain's "Life on the Mississippi," accompanied by the first printing of a suppressed chapter and a letter, and the 1795 first edition of Nicholson's "Dictionary of Chemistry," including engraved plates.  Several handsome and large, fancy leather-bound antique sets will also be offered.

Several pleasing collections will also be featured.  Included are selections from a very large private library that we will be selling over several auctions.  Throughout the catalog are desirable titles from categories such as decorative antique bindings, modern first edition fiction, military history, travel & exploration (polar, American, etc.), Civil War, New York, early Americana, cartography, the American West, natural history, technology & engineering, and much more.

Found throughout this catalog are interesting offerings of artwork and ephemera.  Leading the artwork is an original signed Tamayo work.  We're also pleased to conduct our second session of items from a very large private collection of early engravings, along with many lithographs.  Engravings in the collection date back to the 16th century and were clearly selected for their superior qualities.  Most of the plates are hand-colored and categories include cartography, ornithology, natural history, architecture, ichthyology, botanical, lepidoptera and more. Other ephemera lots showcase early maps, postcards, railroad-related, antique magazines, travel-related, original antique correspondence, antique photographs, billheads, stamps, and other genres.

The collectibles are led by a fine assortment of ceramics and an estate collection of vintage clothing.  The ceramics are well preserved and include late 18th and early 19th century Staffordshire examples from makers such as Pratt, Clews, Hall, and Wood & Sons and several different styles including flow blue transferware, Crimean war lusterware, slipware and mochaware.  This auction also features several lots of vintage clothing ranging from the 1960's to the 1980's. There is desirable designer apparel, including names such as Valentina, from the garment district in New York City and other high end merchants from Long Island and the down-state Manhattan area.
