Hollywood, Carreno, Steinbeck at National Book Auctions

[ITHACA, NY] National Book Auctions, located in Ithaca, NY, announces the launch of their next auction catalog. 

Book, Art and Ephemera Auction - Hollywood, Carreno, Steinbeck, etc.    

This catalog features rare, antique and decorative books as well as select additions of ephemera and artwork.  Among the artwork are original works attributed to Mario Carreno and Rufino Tamayo.  Several lots offer desirable antique childrens books in admirable condition and an impressive collection of stage & screen-related ephemera will be sold.

Antique and rare books in this catalog feature numerous titles.  Among the earliest examples are Bertrand's "Descriptions des Arts et Metiers," printed in 1775 with engraved plates, the 1818 printing of Wither's "Fair Virtue - The Mistress of Philarete," and the 1777 first edition of Helvetius' "A Treatise on Man, His Intellectual Faculties and His Education," produced in two volumes.  Other scarce titles include an author-signed 1939 first edition copy of Steinbeck's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, "The Grapes of Wrath," in the original dust jacket, the 1899 first edition of Dumont's "The Witmark Amateur Minstrel Guide and Burnt Cork Encyclopedia," and an 1859 bound magazine compilation of Dickens' "All the Year Round," featuring first issue installments of "Tale of Two Cities."   

Several pleasing collections will also be featured.  An estate library being offered includes a quantity of antique children's books including important printings in remarkable condition with many original dust jackets present.  This collection includes early comics with Disney characters and others, and titles such as a 1943 first edition of Hoke's "The Furry Bear" and the 1942 first edition of Walt Disney's edition of "Bambi."  Additional collections feature decorative antique bindings, travel & exploration, early Americana, author-signed, art history, and much more.

Found throughout this catalog are interesting offerings of collectibles, artwork and ephemera.  In addition to the works by Carreno and Tamayo, additional original pieces include paintings, engravings and hand-tinted lithographs including examples from Currier & Ives.  Also offered is a large private collection of autographed stage & screen memorabilia with items signed by Marilyn Monroe, Lucille Ball, Cecil B. DeMille, Noel Coward, Federico Fellini, Louis Armstrong, Mickey Rooney and many others.  Ephemera offerings include early maps & cartography, railroad-related, antique magazines, chromolithographs, valentines, die-cuts, sheet music, stamps, travel, original antique correspondence, antique photographs, and other genres.   An interesting collection of estate jewelry will also be offered.
